Thinking of joining us? Do you want to have some fun at rehearsals and gigs? We are always looking to recruit players in all sections.
Guggenmusik is quite different from playing in a traditional brass band although some of our members do both. The music is deliberately ‘edgy’ and, shall we say, less precise! Most Swiss Gugge bands do not even play with music (don’t worry we do, although sometimes it may not seem so!)
As long as you can play to an acceptable standard (no music exam grades needed here, but gratefully received!) you will be able to come along for a trial period of 2-3 months to see if we like each other after which you will be able to join and gig.
We welcome players from 16 years (younger members will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult at rehearsals and gigs).
Sadly, we are unable to teach from scratch so you do need to be able to sight read. Our music, true to Guggen style is not complex or too demanding so don’t worry!
We practice most Friday evenings per year between 8pm & 10pm in Ringwood. On average we probably have around 15-20 gigs per year. These are a mix of busks in Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne and regular festivals. We try to organise an overseas event every couple of years.
Some Band members also make an annual pilgrimage to Lucerne in Switzerland, the home of Guggenmusik, for their amazing carnival (Fasnacht) in February. This has to be seen to be believed!
We do expect Band members to come to most rehearsals which are great fun – in fact, as much fun as our gigs! We will reconvene after practice at a family friendly pub after a hard evening of playing.
We also have a couple of social events each year too!
We can provide music written with valve/slide positions if you are a little rusty. We try to provide music parts that allow all levels to participate.
Oh, almost forgot to mention two important things…you will need to look happy when playing and move a bit! Check out the YouTube clips!
Our Band Constitution (rules and boring stuff) can be found here!
Come and speak to any of us at a gig or complete the enquiry form and someone will
contact you. Come on, its really fun!
